Measures for Crime Prevention

Safety measures to avoid crime:

[Sneak thief] Sneaks into an empty home, and robs cash or articles.

Keep your doors locked, even in a short absence.

[Snatcher] Snatches a bag or purse, etc. while passing by on a motorcycle or other vehicles.

You are advised to firmly clutch your bag under your arm on the side opposite to the traffic.
Be sure to install a crime-prevention net over the front cage of your bicycle.

[Bicycle Theft]

Always keep your bike locked.
When you purchase a bicycle,use the registration system to prevent theft.

To prevent sexual assault

Don't walk along dark roads by yourself.
When you get onto a crowded electric train, stand near female passengers if possible.
When you are walking, carry a portable alarm device such as a loud buzzer with you.

If you are a victim of crime:
Immediately call the police emergency number 110, or report to a police station or police box nearby.

Leave the crime site as it is. Don't try to put things back in order.
If you are wounded and must call an ambulance, tell the police so when you call 110, or dial 119 directly.
If your bicycle or motorcycle is stolen, also mention the vehicle's identification number and the Crime Prevention registration number.

Parked Bicycle & Motorcycle

@Kagawa Prefecture has very high rates of bicycles and motorcycles use, and a number of bicycles and motorcycles are parked at street corners. If you take any of these without approval, or if you receive stolen items, you are in violation of the law, and will be punished. Take care in these situations.

If you lose or leave anything behind

If you lose or leave anything behind, immediately report to a police box or police station,

Traffic rules

One of the basics of Japan's traffic rules is "Pedestrian to the right, car to the left". Bicycles must run on the left side of the road.

Traffic accidents

In case you are involved in a traffic accident, report to a police box or police station. If you are in a hurry or there is an emergency, dial 110.

If you are injured and must call an ambulance, tell so when you dial 110 or dial 119 directly for an ambulance from a nearby telephone.
